Officer Tarah Butcher

Officer Tarah Butcher grew up in a small farm town in central Indiana. After high school, she attended Anderson University where she studied Psychology and Youth Leadership Development. She later attended Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, where she pursued PhD studies focused on the brain mechanisms involved in substance use disorders and published several scientific papers. Officer Butcher joined the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in 2022 as part of the 25th Recruit Class. She began her career on East District middle shift before transferring to Southeast District middle shift, where she served as a Field Training Officer. She now serves with the IMPD Recruiting Unit. Outside of work, Officer Butcher enjoys spending time with her husband and dogs. Her hobbies include traveling, hiking, reading, lifting weights, Jiu Jitsu, and volunteering with her church youth group and local food pantry.
